FSSAI Licences

FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India)

FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) license is a mandatory certification that is required for all food businesses operating in India. The FSSAI license is issued by the FSSAI, which is an autonomous body established under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

The FSSAI license is intended to ensure that food products sold in India are safe for consumption and meet the standards set by the FSSAI. The license is issued based on the type of food business and the scale of operations. Businesses that operate in the food industry in India must obtain an FSSAI license before starting operations.

The FSSAI license is divided into two categories:

  1. Basic FSSAI license: This license is required for small-scale food businesses with an annual turnover of less than INR 12 Lakhs, such as street vendors, small-scale processors, and small-scale retailers.
  2. State FSSAI license: This license is required for food businesses that have an annual turnover of more than INR 12 Lakhs and are engaged in the storage, distribution, and transportation of food products.

The process of obtaining an FSSAI license involves:

  1. Application: The first step is to submit the application form along with the required documents to the FSSAI.
  2. Inspection: Once the application is submitted, the FSSAI will conduct an inspection of the food business premises to ensure that the business is compliant with the FSSAI regulations.
  3. Approval: After the inspection, the FSSAI will approve the application and issue the FSSAI license.
  4. Renewal: FSSAI license must be renewed every year if you have taken it for one year.

It’s important to note that the above points are general guidelines, and the specific requirements for obtaining an FSSAI license may vary depending on the type of food business and the region.

FSSAI for central

FSSAI for central refers to the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) license that is required for food businesses operating at a central level. This type of license is typically required for large-scale food businesses that operate across multiple states in India, such as large-scale manufacturers, importers, and exporters of food products.

To obtain an FSSAI for a central license, the food business must submit an application to the FSSAI along with the required documents and fees. The FSSAI will then conduct an inspection of the food business premises to ensure that the business is compliant with the FSSAI regulations. Once the inspection is complete, the FSSAI will approve the application and issue the FSSAI a central license.

It’s important to note that FSSAI for a central license is a mandatory requirement for food businesses operating at a central level and the process of obtaining a license is similar to the one of a state license but with a few more requirements.
