MPEDA RCMC

What is MPEDA Registration (RCMC)?

The Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), established under the MPEDA Act, 1972, functions under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India.
MPEDA is the apex body responsible for promoting, regulating, and supporting the export of marine products from India — including fish, shrimp, crab, and other seafood products.

Every business involved in the export of marine or aquaculture products must obtain a Registration-cum-Membership Certificate (RCMC) from MPEDA.
This registration is mandatory under the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) to avail export incentives, participate in trade fairs, and be recognized as a registered seafood exporter by the Government of India.

Purpose of MPEDA Registration

The MPEDA RCMC ensures:

    1. Proper regulation and promotion of India’s marine product exports.

    2. Recognition and credibility for exporters in the global seafood market.

    3. Access to government incentives, schemes, and export assistance.

    4. Adherence to international standards of hygiene, safety, and quality.

    5. Participation in promotional events, trade fairs, and buyer-seller meets organized by MPEDA.

Who Needs MPEDA Registration?

MPEDA registration is mandatory for all exporters dealing in:

    1. Frozen and chilled seafood products

    2. Fish, shrimp, crab, lobster, and cuttlefish

    3. Dried and processed marine products

    4. Aquaculture and hatchery products

    5. Value-added seafood and ready-to-cook marine products

If your business exports any type of marine or seafood product, you must obtain an RCMC from MPEDA before starting export operations.

Benefits of MPEDA Registration

    1. Government Recognition: Be officially recognized as a registered seafood exporter.

    2. Export Incentives: Eligibility for benefits under the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP).

    3. Market Support: Assistance with export promotion and buyer connectivity.

    4. Quality Certification: Guidance on product quality, hygiene, and processing standards.

    5. Trade Participation: Opportunity to attend global seafood fairs and events.

    6. Financial Support: Access to government grants and schemes for export development.
